Turbomolecular Pump Rotor RFQ: A Drawing and Acceptance Checklist
Before requesting a quote for a custom turbomolecular pump rotor, organize the inquiry around three questions: what is the released definition, what evidence will support acceptance, and which activities belong in the quoted scope? Use the checklist below to prepare a reviewable package and compare supplier responses on the same basis.

1. Start with a controlled product definition
NIST describes STEP as an exchange format for product data, including geometry and product manufacturing information. Its analyzer distinguishes graphical annotations from semantic information. A useful purchasing implication is to ask the recipient to confirm what survived the export, rather than treating successful file opening as acceptance of the complete requirement set.
Use one named release package. Include the part number, revision, model filename, drawing filename, units and the document that takes precedence if files disagree. Ask the supplier to list missing or conflicting requirements before issuing a firm quotation. This is a proposed buying workflow, not a requirement imposed by the references.
2. Build the RFQ package around review decisions

3. Translate drawing requirements into deliverables
ASME describes Y14.5 as a common language for specifying and interpreting geometric requirements on drawings and digital models. For an RFQ, name the applicable drawing standard and edition instead of asking the supplier to infer it. Do not mix conventions without explaining which requirement governs.
Create a short acceptance matrix with one row per customer-designated characteristic: drawing reference, requested evidence, responsible reviewer and approval stage. Ask what the proposed report will actually contain. Resolve any inaccessible feature or alternative verification proposal in writing before accepting the quotation. This matrix is an editorial purchasing aid; it does not replace an approved inspection plan.
Keep dimensional inspection, balancing and application qualification as separate line items in the inquiry. Ask which are included, who would perform any agreed activity, and which document defines acceptance. Do not treat a generic inspection report as permission to operate a rotating assembly. The equipment design authority should define the required qualification evidence.
4. Compare exclusions before comparing totals
Request a response against the same document list from each bidder. Use three response categories: included as specified, clarification needed, and excluded. A lower total should not be interpreted as a like-for-like offer until the underlying activities and evidence obligations match.
For example, if one offer includes the requested report and another only lists the component, ask the second bidder to confirm the missing deliverable and revise the scope if needed. Do not fill the gap with an assumption. Record changes against the RFQ revision so purchasing and technical reviewers approve the same package.
Before releasing an order, confirm the approved files, outstanding deviations, evidence deliverables, packaging instructions and person authorized to approve changes. Keep any proposed manufacturing adjustment separate from the released definition until the customer's responsible reviewer accepts it.
5. Use a drawing-led review, with explicit boundaries

Can a STEP file replace the drawing?
Ask whether the delivered model contains the complete approved definition and whether both parties can interpret it consistently. If essential requirements reside in another document, include that document and state precedence. Choose the contractual definition explicitly; do not decide by file extension alone.
What if the RFQ package is incomplete?
Label the request as preliminary and list the unresolved items. Ask for a clarification list or a conditional quotation that identifies its assumptions. Obtain the missing approvals before treating the response as an accepted production scope.
